Here you can find out what to bring when coming or considering coming to Camp Squeah for an Outdoor Education Retreat.
Of the greatest value for your students, we think, is coming and staying overnight for 1, 2, 3 or more nights. Schools may come anytime in the week or weekend through the school year. We’re open all year round! While the weather often plays a factor for these decisions, many activities may still be done in the Fall and Winter: Indoor Rock Climbing, Archery (covered shooting building), hiking (depending on snow), orienteering, Group Initiatives, Low Ropes Course (weather permitting), High Ropes Course (weather permitting), Crafts, and Falconry (contracted facilitators) are all activities we can still do. Canoeing begins being offered usually as early as March and as late as November. The Pool is open from mid May to the end of September.
Winter retreats are great opportunities to focus on a leadership team, a band trip or winter fun. All our facilities and accommodations are heated throughout the winter and having a fireplace roaring and a hot chocolate in your hand creates a great atmosphere for memorable times with your students. Playing in the snow can be a great part of the fun too. Unlike the lower mainland, we usually have a REAL winter for some of the weeks in January and February. Time it right and you could enjoy a trip in winter wonderland just down the road from your school.
Day trips are great options for any school wishing an Outdoor Education excursion but finding it difficult to afford the costs or work out bussing transportation. Come and go within your school’s timetable and let your class enjoy the great outdoors and activities we have to offer.
Keep in mind that the number of hours you have will be limited so the number of activities doable in a day will also be limited depending on the size of your group. With 5 hours to work with we can accommodate about 80 children so that they all get to experience the same activities. Bring a bag lunch and picnic on our tables outside or we can cater a lunch for your group if you prefer!
This new Outdoor Education option is in development and we’d like to offer it to your school. If working out bussing transportation or even being able to afford the trip is prohibitive, consider letting us come to you to provide some great facilitation for a class of students. A small team of qualified leaders can provide great trust building and team building activities for a class within class time.
