It is the mission of our summer ministry team to provide a place of refuge for each camper and create an environment for personal and spiritual growth, eagerness to try new things. Our team strives to share the Gospel message with every camper; planting mustard seeds through sharing the Word during Bible Study and evening chapel as well as serving whole-heartedly .

At Camp Squeah we take joy in our natural BC environment. Our staff lead and participate in outdoor activities with their campers.

Staff Expectations

To be accepted for a position on the summer ministry team you must: 

  • Have an active Christian faith
  • Be at least 17 years old 
  • Have the maturity to care for young campers 

If you join our summer ministry team, you are committing to: 

  • Attend training week (beginning the last Sunday of June) 
  • Serve throughout the summer at camp (July & August)

Bursary and Paid Opportunities

At Camp Squeah, we value the commitment of your time to our ministry and we depend on volunteers to fill many of our positions. We also understand that young people may need financial support in order to serve for the whole summer. That’s why we have created a number of paid positions and set up a bursary program for volunteer post-secondary students.  In addition, some roles may be eligible to be paid through our application for Canada Summer Jobs Grants.

Cabin Leader

Summer Camp

This is the core ministry role at summer camp! Cabin Leaders are responsible for leading a small group of campers through their camp experience. Cabin leaders build relationships by spending most of the day and night with their campers, including a one night overnight hike. Through forged relationships and engaging Bible studies, cabin leaders share God’s love for campers.

Activity Support Staff

This role is critical to positive camper experiences at camp! Activity Support Staff live in cabins with campers, assisting with supervising a small group, while spending the day leading fun camp activities and supporting other camp events and services, such as the kitchen. Activity Support Staff show passion and enthusiasm for each activity they lead, challenging campers to try new things and experience God’s loving community at the same time.

Summer Program Coordinator

The Summer Program Coordinator (formerly Assistant Program Director) is responsible, along with the Program Director, to give care and leadership to the Summer Leadership Team and oversee the summer program, including staff scheduling, assignments, and conflict resolution. This person leads by example, ready to serve in any role necessary, and seeks to build positive and encouraging relationships among the summer leadership team and staff.

Activity Director

The Activity Director plays an important part of the |Summer Leadership Team, providing specific leadership to the Activity Support Staff . While responsible for activity scheduling, maintenance, and coordination of camp activities, the Activity Director also provides leadership through support and mentorship of activity staff.

Resource Counselor

The Resource Counselors serve on the Summer Leadership Team, with a focus on caring for and leading Cabin Leaders. RC’s become the face of camp as they lead many of the transitional moments, keeping the flow and rhythm of the camp day flowing. They also routinely monitor camper and cabin leader well being. There is no such thing as a typical day, with RC’s jumping in to engage campers needing extra support, or stepping in to give Cabin Leaders a break.

MUD Director

The MUD Director, a member of the Summer Leadership Team, gives organization and leadership to the summer MUD (Work Crew) programs. The MUD Director is responsible for directing a team of leaders to mentor teenagers in practical service and camp ministry. They coordinate opportunities for discipleship and learning while managing a list of daily “chores” for the MUD crew.

SLT Director

The SLT Director, a member of the Summer Leadership Team, gives organization and leadership to the Servant Leadership Training programs. The SLT Director is responsible for directing a team of staff to mentor teenagers, developing leadership in camp ministry. They oversee the planning and execution of a program that combines discipleship training with hands-on practical experience, as teenagers serve campers in cabins alongside staff.

First Aid Attendant

The Summer First Aid Attendant, a member of the Summer Leadership Team, is responsible for the health needs of staff and campers. The First Aid Attendant serves to organize and dispense daily camper medications according to parent instructions and responds to all onsite first aid situations. The First Aid Attendant also prepares first aid supplies for overnight hiking groups and serves as “base camp,” wearing an on-call radio at all times. OFA II certification is required.

Lifeguard

The Lifeguard is responsible for the safe supervision of staff and campers at the swimming pool, along with basic maintenance of the pool and surrounding area. He or she must possess a valid NLS certification and preference will be given to those with experience. This role is considered an Activity Support Staff position, which includes opportunities to help in the kitchen and to live in a cabin with campers, working alongside a Cabin Leader.

Multimedia Specialist

The Multimedia Specialist creates an atmosphere of fun and excitement at camp by capturing and elevating memories. This includes capturing video and image content for use in weekly slideshows and year-round promotions. In addition, the Multimedia Specialist creates an immersive experience for our campers by assisting with audio and video presentations.

SLT Leader

The SLT Leader will assist the SLT Director in providing leadership for the Summer Leadership Training programs, teaching and mentoring teenagers in servant leadership and camp ministry. This is an opportunity to impact the lives of young people, by creating a safe environment for them to engage in discipleship, try new things, and gain practical leadership experience.

MUD Leader

The MUD Leader will assist the MUD Director in providing leadership for the Summer MUD programs, teaching and discipling teenagers in practical service and camp ministry. This is an opportunity to help young people grow, by teaching new skills, teamwork, and work ethic, while engaging in a spiritually enriching community.

Kitchen Dedicated

Volunteer

Kitchen Dedicated Support Staff fuel camper experiences by preparing and serving great food in a friendly atmosphere. The Kitchen Crew has fun together working hard to create healthy meals every day. Outside the kitchen, camp program runs all day long, and kitchen crew are encouraged to participate and contribute to the community, sharing God’s love through food and relationships.

Weekly Volunteers 

Want to volunteer at camp this summer but have limited time available? Apply to be a weekly volunteer! Positions are limited for those volunteering on a week by week basis. Opportunities range from leading campers in a cabin, or supporting our food services in the kitchen, to applying your skills for maintenance projects.
